Bergenstein has a very limited economy thanks to the current ongoing conflict however many citizens do live and work as normal. The two main industries of work is the arms manufacture and the brewing of beer. There are thousands of small and multiple large breweries that new employees can find themselves work. The work ranges from unskilled to highly skilled labour. The arms industry due to the fine calculations that must be done and attention to detail employers often look for much more skill. The top producers like FN, Steyr, MGS produce thousands of arms a year and export them on a global scale. The arms industry is the most successful element of the current Bergenstein economy.
Another major area of employment is in the military forces. The newly formed Bergen Federal Army is the lowest paid however works with the most modern technology available to Bergenstein. The State armies, or 'private armies' have a much better pay, this is due to a number of reasons but outside connections are at the forefront of the list. Some of these forces are outdated however still are formidable against attackers. There are a number of militias aligned with the current government however these are not always paying occupations, some are purely voluntary.
Agriculture recently has see a sharp rise in profitability thanks to the new shortages of food created by trade embargos. The food production industry is at full stretch and has seen multiple new investments from investors to attempt to increase production. The government has been trying to further this end to possible food shortage after the winter of 2013 when Bergenstein was in ruin.
Small scale local businesses are struggling yet are increasable finding that the competition from major chain businesses is moving abroad. This has allowed the smaller businesses to expand and absorb some of the custom from these major producers. The damage to infrastructure though has been a major drawback to new investors and businesses that relied on regular deliveries.
United Berg Industries, a steal manufacturing corporation that was formed in the 60 when a number of Bergen foundries joined together. In recent years the company has been developing a stat of the art tank, the ubiD95 main battle tank. 60 models were used in the Bergenstein Civil War as part of the Bergan Army. The tanks had no casualties taken and all were returned to the foundry with excellent reports. United Berg Industries today has officially put the tank on sale and as soon as orders have materialised the tank is expected to enter full production. The new Bergen Federal Army is reported to have already secured a decent number of these tanks
