History of Dantanaea and the Confederation

800-1000: Neridean tribes move to the island of Dantanaea due to population pressure in present day Logounia, Mnopa, East Mnopa and Anbala. Those days the entire region north of the Derraean Alps was a desert, thus a large majority of the tribes moved to the south of Dantanaea.

1000-1400: The different tribes in the south of the island evolve from hunter-gatherers to agrarian cultures. The first to settle, around 1250, are the Derra and Orra-people, located both in present day Derraland. The Mera and Tella-tribes follow this example a century later.
During the 14th century the Quluq move south from Arktici to settle on the cool and mountainous east side of the Misty Mountains.

1400-1500: The Wamorra, Temba and Wedarra-tribes settle down, while the Mera, Tella, Orra and Derra evolve into feudal kingdoms.
Due to a climate change the desert starts retreating to it's present borders slowly.

1500-1600: The kingdom of Derra conquers Orra after a series of wars. The Mera drive the Tella north until they are stopped by the river Tella.

1600-1700: The steppe warriors of Malakka ravage the east of Neridea and cause several Mnopa-tribes to cross the straits to the now more fertile north of Dantanaea. The Wamorra evolve into a kingdom. This event and a large revolt of the oppressed Orra in Derraland spark an island wide war in 1678. The Tella and Derra are attacked by the Mera and Wamorra, who were asked to intervene by the revolting Orra. This war, known as the Five Nation's War, lasts 20 years and ends with a limited victory for the Wamorra and Meraland. In 1696 Derraland bribed the Endean peoples, who were small, less civilized yet settled tribes to raid and ravage the Wamorra kingdom from the west. This was the drop that made the Wamorrans offer a peace settlement that was acceptable for Derraland. The Derran king had to give up a small stretch of land to Wamorra in the west and had to pay reparations to both Wamorra and Meraland. The situation between Tellaland and Meraland remained a status quo. The Five Nation's War ended officially on December 24th, 1698.

1746: The Trentannian John Cooke is the first non-Neridean to set foot on Dantanaea. He arrives with a fleet of 10 ships at the mouth of the river Orra after they were blown off course by a storm on the eastern Solvanese Ocean.

1752: The first military expedition and colonists disembark near Orrawong. John Cooke maps the whole south coast of the island. The Trentannians have already discovered the use gunpowder with firearms and cannon and are thus at an advantage against the Dantanaeans armed with swords and bows.

1755: Orrawong and Orramo are conquered by the Trentannians. Orramo is transformed into the local operating base for the Trentannian army. It is renamed Goosebridge. Wamorra and Derraland start a joint offensive against the Trentannians.

1756-1760: The Dantanaean offensive is fruitless and the Wamorrans and Derrans are slowly pushed back until the invaders reach the Derra and Tella rivers in the east. There they come to a standstill. In the west a Trentannian force has advanced up to 50 km east of the city of Wamorra while in Derraland the parts of the capital Derramo on the west bank of the Derra lie in ruins. The east bank remains untouched, all bridges over the Derra and Tella are destroyed.

1761-1790: More colonists from Trentannia arrive to fill the conquered lands. They have to deal with frequent revolts from the locals and raids launched from across the rivers Tella by the free Derrans.
Meraland and Tellaland, aware of the situation but rather unconcerned and in case of the Merans even pleased, battle another war from 1765 to 1770. At the start of this war Derraland is still able to help out the Tellans a little, but later the Trentannians requite their full attention. This war is known as the Fool's War. It ends with another status quo ante bellum.

1791-1800: During a Derran raid in Trentannian territory a high Trentannian official and noble is killed along with his whole family. The Trentannians decide to conquer the rest of Derraland and Wamorra. The Derrans have acquired a few cannons and quite a few firearms during raids and are able to considerably slow the Trentannian offensive compared to the initial 1756-1760 invasion. However they have to give up territory slowly but surely. Wamorra falls to a Trentannian force in1792, Tellawong surrenders in 1793 and is razed to the ground. East Derramo is conquered in 1795. Both royal families of Wamorra and Derraland are captured and executed by the Trentannians. The Trentannian army reaches the border of Meraland eventually in the summer of 1800. Meraland, faced with thousands of fleeing Derrans is now finally aware of the seriousness of the Trentannian threat.

1801-1802: The Merans and fled Derrans come to the conclusion that they will need foreign support to prevent total defeat. This is proven by the continued, albeit slow, progress of the Trentannian forces into Meraland and southern Tellaland. The Tellans abandon their capital Tellamo and establish New Tellamo on Coral Bay in 1803.
The The Merans and Derrans form the Free Dantanaean Alliance(FDA) under leadership of the Meran king Shakra II Wombassa and the Derran general Simba Wallawarra.
On February 10th, 1801 a fleet of 10 ships, still made of wood and dependent on the wind, sets out for New Chandler City in Posilliponan-owned New Chandler. They arrive on May 28th and set up diplomatic relatrions. The Posilliponan colonial authorities send the FDA-delegation to Posillipo where the central government decides they cannot let their arch enemy have another colonial conquest. A Posilliponan fleet with a small expeditionary force and a number of military advisers and industrial engineers as well as arms for the FDA-army is sent back and arrives in Meralla on October 20th 1802.

1803-1806: Despite the Posilliponan expeditionary force and military advisers the FDA-army is pushed back until the Trentannian army stands before the heavily reinforced and defended walls of Meralla on October 15th, 1806.

1807: After a siege of more then 4 months a large Posilliponan fleet arrives under the cliffs of Meralla on March 1st, 1807 and unloads an army that, together with sallying FDA-forces, break the siege of Meralla. In December 1807 the Trentannians have been pushed back to the border between Meraland and Derraland.
After the siege is lifted, on March 5th king Shakra II Wombassa and general Simba Wallawarra sign the Treaty of Reconquest in Meralla, founding the Dantanaean Federation, predecessor to the Dantanaean Confederation.

1808-1812: During the winter of 1807-1808 the Trentannians dig themselves in along the Meraland-Derraland border. They are determined to protect the settlers that have come to live on Dantanaea. The subsequent 4 years of trench warfare see little teeritory changing hands. Meanwhile the Meran economy is rapidly industrializing thanks to spying on the Trentannians and help from the industrial engineers from Posillipo.

1813: Due to the massive modernization of the Dantanaean army a new large assault against the Trentannian positions on the road to Derramo is successful. After 18 years of occupation Derramo is recaptured. The first modern warships running off the drydocks east of Towbaga tip the balance on sea in favor of the Posilliponan-Dantanaean fleet. Wamorran rebels are supplied with arms and ammunition.

1814: The Dantanaean forces and Wamorran rebels overwhelm the Trentannian army and in August 1814 the last Trentannian forces surrender. During the reconquest several mass murders are committed on Trentannian settlers, who flee the island en masse. On October 1st, 1814 the Peace of Tellawong is signed between the Dantanaean Federation, Posillipo and Trentannia. On the same day Wamorra enters the Dantanaean Federation with the signing of the Treaty of Unification. Southern Tellaland, where nearly no Tellans live anymore, is made part of Meraland.

1845: The old king Shakra II Wombassa dies and his son Simba IV Wombassa ascends to the throne of the Dantanaean Federation. Not having witnessed the horrors of the Reconquest and the sacrifices the three peoples have made for it the young king wishes to centralize power in Meralla and for Meraland. This doesn't sit well of course with the Derrans and Wamorrans. Diplomacy fails and the Dantanaean Civil War erupts.

1846: The central army, consisting of mostly Merans, advances towards Derramo but is prevented from crossing the Tella and comes to a standstill a few kilometres from Derramo. Meanwhile the Derrans have conquered southern Tellaland (then part of Meraland) to prevent the Merans from crossing the Tella further north. The Tella, bent on getting their ancestral lands back, send their primitive army south to help the Derrans and Wamorrans.

1847: After a quick modernization and retraining of the Tellan army the combined Tellan, Derran and Wamorran forces throroughly defeat the central army with a two-pronged attack against their main army on the east bank of the Tella near Derramo.
The Tellan and most of the Derran forces cross the river Tella near Tellamo and move south again. On May 13th, 1847 the rest of the Derran forces and the Wamorrans initiate what seems like a foolish and doomed counteroffensive by crossing the Tella at Derramo. Distracted by this move the Merans are competely surprised by the Tellans and the majority of the Derran forces attacking them in the rear. The civil war is over.
On June 21st, with the rebel army surrounding Meralla, king Simba IV Wombassa is forced to abdicate the throne. A month later, on July 25th, 1847 the Treaty of Reconciliation establishes the Dantanaean Confederation with the constitution and form of government as we know it today. Meralla stays the capital, but the government is heavily decentralized and Tellaland enters the Confederation.

1855: The Quluq nation, before a seperate but insignificant country, industrialized thanks to the contacts with Posilliponians and Dantanaeans, freely gives up it's independance and enters the Dantanaean Confederation on July 25th. In the same year the Wamorran and Derran governments start a campaign to civilize and industrialize the Endean Peninsula. This outside involvement is not welcomed by the Endean poeples and violence erupts but due to the vast technological and numerical advantage the Endean Peninsula is conquered and made a territory ruled by the federal government.

1912: The federal government decides that the Endean Peninsula is stable enough socially and economically and integrated well enough into the Dantanaean governmental structures that the region may become a State. On May 25th, 1912 the Endean Peninsula becomes the 6th member state of the Dantanaean Confederation.

1925: After oil is found in the Midland desert by Tellan prospectors the Tellan government establishes the Midland Territories.

1988-present day: Due to rising population in Wamorra, the Endean Peninsula, Derraland and northern Tellaland, as well as to prevent annexation by a Neridean country a colonization effort is started settle the Northern Territories, ruled by the federal government. After initial success the first 5 years the colonization drive died down to a trickle. Today the Northern Territories are a mixture of a few small cities, towns and villages, farmland, dense forests and savannah.
