Greetings, and herro fellow forum users.

I'll get straight to the point. This union, and the way we handle our "Laws" have become too far into the form of Legal Documentation and Vocab. This is a community roleplay forum based around fictional politics with Simcity4 as the medium. We are not the United Nations, the EU, or some Lawfirm handling case files. We don't need to antagonize or intimidate current or new members with idly threatening legal documents in our International Assembly. We should fight to keep our community simple and easy to understand.

With that said, I'm moving to place strict guidelines in the preparing and submitting of proposals in the Assembly and other areas of the Union where political legal action is warranted.

  • Proposals shall be in simple paragraph, bullet or numbered format.
  • Proposals shall refrain from being written in the form of a Legal Document.
  • Keep the content of your proposal short and sweet. Simple to understand, devoid of any excess mumbo jumbo that could potentially confuse, upset, or put off a fellow user.

If you have anything else to add to this please mention. I want this place to be simple and easy to read. We don't need to get to broiled in seriousness or try to strive for so called "professionalism". This is supposed to be a fun place.

This is too strict for my liking.  Maybe you can just say a simple paragraph that explains the law is required at the begininning of each proposal.  But over-simplifying can cause problems, and will likely not be enforced.

It is supposed to be fun, but also realistic.  Restricting us from our own creativity (I consider writing our own legal documents is pretty creative Razz) is not constructive at all.

Yeah, sorry, I don't support this. I like writing those kind of proposals but I understand reading them can sometimes be tedious, that's why I include an introduction and outlines that tell exactly what the law does. Razz

Longer laws = more fun with creativity.

I do suggest people to write a preamble/objective on their laws Razz

Longer Laws = more red tape and headaches. Razz

I'm not trying to restrict people's creativity, but things such as union wide assembly topics should be kept as simple as possible without sacrificing their importance. I've got a pretty well established vocab and even Jacks and Chips documents turn my head to slush after the first two paragraphs.

I disagree, simplifying things only causes trouble.

We have stuff happened over vagueness of laws, as you could see with past conflicts with members, who literally scan each detail to find a possible loophole Razz

Detail is very important. Razz But from now on, I will include a paragraph that explains the law I propose.

Then those members are pooheads who take things way too seriously. Razz

I guess  this topic is quickly becoming a moot point.

Come on Mike, really? Razz Pooheads?

I believe everyone can choose to write laws however they want to, it's not up to any one member to dictate how everyone has to write.

I can put this to vote if you'd like.

I doubt a vote is needed when the opinion itself is unanimous Jack. Like I said, pooheads, and moot point. Razz

... Back to topic ...

I tend to write long laws because people will have a better understanding of such laws... Without a degree of complexity, you will also eliminate some creativity and heck , even understanding of what the prison or nation is conveying. For example, there is a difference between a constitution that outlines the basic stuff of the nation versus a constitution that outlines in detail what is allowable per se article 9.

Edit: disregard prison, I meant person Razz
