Treaty of Braavos: Abbasidi refusal to sign prompts anti-Kabier sentiment

The Braavos Globe - Page 3 126207266
Doge Diogenes in a press conference

By Agape Areleous

BRAAVOS - With the Treaty of Braavos officially signed, reconstruction, security and peace are the main aims of the new Federal Republic of Berg. An interim constitution is still to be drafted by the provisional government while Coalition peace-keeping troops are still in the country to protect citizens and manage reconstruction.

But in Western Althenan countries, the refusal of the Kingdom of Abbasid to sign the treaty due to which the treaty is apparently too hard on Bergenstein with many military restrictions and economic clauses, has prompted a growing anti-Kabier sentiment. Doge Diogenes responded by saying the treaty was to the contrary very "kind" to Bergenstein:

"The treaty is very kind to Bergenstein. Bruellen and Mervey pressured to include their territorial disputes in the treaty, but we managed to keep Bergenstein's territorial integrity in it. The military restrictions are absolutely needed to protect Western Althena and especially the Bergen population against a new civil war. The economic clauses are to ensure that Bergenstein gets a good standard of living."

Why would Abbasid refuse to sign the treaty? Political analyst Abu al-Fadl Dimitriou suggests that Abbasid is distancing themselves from Western Althenan influence, and wouldn't want any kind of involvement of Western powers in the Kabier world. It is to be noted that the situation in Esdaad has still not been resolved, following the assassination of the Emir of Khalifji. Esdaad, being linked with Bergenstein forces during the war and suspected to be arming each others.

"What is remarkable also is the fact that Euphemian powers have been kept out of any kind of involvement in the Bergenstein civil war. It shows the will of Western Althenan powers to deal with their own affairs without Euphemian stepping in." concludes Abu al-Fadl Dimitriou.

Sinope to purchase two Follandian new VTOL aircrafts

The Braavos Globe - Page 3 Ut64_tc_flight_by_mik_moen-d73c4nb
UT64-TC Ghost by Uther & Trell Aeronautics

By Agape Areleous

HINALI - The Follandan company Uther & Trell Aeronautics recently launched its new generation of aircraft with the UT64-TC Ghost, a tiltjet VTOL aircraft using rotating turbojet United Electric engines. The first of its kind, the Ghost uses an uncommon VTOL technology, found in rare vehicles such as the Trentannian jet Harrier, amongst others.

Braavos' move is surprising, being the second nation to announce interest in the new UT64-TC Ghost, after Folland herself. A communique from the Defense Minister's office declared that "Sinope is interested in new technologies and the origin of a defense corporation doesn't matter for such interests. We believe Folland has, despite its government, a good technology and defense sector and high-value workers. The UT64-TC Ghost will be beneficial to the Republic."

Could this sudden move be orchestrated in order to ease the recent tensions between the two governments? Many would like to think so. Follandian expatriate and journalist for the Braavos Globe, Nicki Stevens, thinks it is "unexpected but welcomed".
"I'm sure Sinope's announcement took many by surprise as it was unexpected, considering Sinope hasn't purchased any entirely-foreign-made military technology since the Great Adonian War. But business is business, and Sinopians are known to put business over silly political drama."

Hinali and Braavos clashed again this week in a controversial request by the Follandan government to investigate into the Fraesian government, accusing the latter to hold information that could be a threat regarding Folland's national security. This request was condemned strongly by Braavos and other nations such as Acadia and Okaiken. The government of Fraesia has not responded yet, showing ambiguity. The Fraesian opposition, however, thinks it is "another weak move by our weak corrupt government."

Doge Diogenes is expected to approve the launch of negotiations on price and delivery schedules with Uther & Trell Aeronautics in coming days.

Danskmark Referendum: Population decided to remain in Bergenstein

The Braavos Globe - Page 3 AC8I6002_a
Clash between pro-independence, unionists and Bergenstein supporters has forced the authorities to fire tear gas on crowds

By Agape Areleous

COPTEBURG, DANSKMARK - Bergenstein News announced today the results of the well anticipated national referendum in Danskmark. The results came out surprisingly, with contradicting the polls previously made by an Okaiken agency. No official results have been communicated yet, as the number of electorate, voter turnout, invalid or blank votes and valid votes have not been transmitted. Bergenstein News however, reported that roughly 10% of the valid votes were in favor of joining the Kingdom of Mervey, while 20% were in favor of complete independence, 44% to stay in Bergenstein but as an autonomous entity and 36% to stay in Bergenstein as a state.

Independence movement spokesperson, Osvald Stenberg, joined with Mervey unionist Anita Rundstrom, have declared they would contest the results. "The great truth of our country is that you [Bergenstein] have stolen the elections, it is the truth, you stole the election process and you must explain to the country and the world." Stenberg declared.

"An independent investigation, should it be conducted by the USN, is absolutely needed. Corruption and fraud is too common with Bergen governments. For far too long have we been under the rule of another nation, deciding for our people. Danskmark is our homeland, Mervey is our country and Mervegians are our brothers. Bergenstein are nothing of the sort. We demand the support of the international community." Rundstrom shouted to a crowd of angry unionist supporters following the referendum.

"We'll have to wait for the official detailed results, but we'll definitively contest." Concluded Stenberg.

Mervey contests the results

Mervey has officially contested the result. Mervegian Prime Minister Kristian Solberg declared in a press conference this afternoon that he would not recognize the results, calling them "another Bergen trick and cheating attempt to rule Mervegian land". Solberg reassured the independence advocators that Mervey would recognize an independent Danskmark. "The Dansk people should know that the Kingdom of Mervey is with the population."

Doge Diogenes remains ambiguous on the referendum

"A referendum is merely a silly questionnaire if it does not oblige by law the authorities to follow the results dictated in the said referendum," declared Doge Diogenes. "It is important that all sides respect the democratic decision of the people of Danskmark and their rights under international law to auto-determination."

Asked if he would contest the results like Sinope's Coalition ally Mervey, Doge Diogenes remained ambiguous, saying Sinope would not get with any side at the moment without further evidence, nor is it a Sinopian matter at this moment either.

Interim Bergen Government

We the rightful rulers of Bergenstein declair this article a mere fake to what is really going on. The Dansk people were liberated from the Mervians many years ago. Mervey is a Breullannic country while the Dansk are Urannic. Danskmarkensweg does not belong with Mervey, it has its own right to decide and the people have spoken. Accept the truth that people do like Berg. We now the old way are gon are most certainly not corrupt and will not accept allegations into it. The only use a tear gas was during a small fight with 20 people of which whom were drunk. We ask that this dog of a newspaper fully rights this news.

The Sinope Republic has a strong free press tradition and strongly supports a just and lasting peace in the regions currently under dejure rule by Bergenstein, which would greatly benefit the population. This is however something the Interim Bergen Government does not seem to understand, that is, the principle of free press, professionalism and the rule of law. We must remind the Interim Bergen Government that they are to respect and fulfill their duties along the Treaty of Braavos, which include the respect of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Poll says Sinopians want to extend the occupation, 55% to 36%

The Braavos Globe - Page 3 6BtWT
Reconstruction of a building riddled with bullets in western Bergenstein

By Stamatia Floros

BRAAVOS - In a recent poll reported in the Braavos Globe on January 28, 55% of respondents said they were against the end of the occupation of Bergenstein by Coalition forces duly by the Treaty of Braavos. Only 36% of those polled claimed that they were in favor of completely leaving the region. The question asked was:

Do you support the withdrawal of Coalition troops currently deployed as peace-keeping forces in Bergenstein as expected in the clauses of the Treaty of Braavos after democratic elections are held?

Many Sinopians now favor negotiating a temporary agreement in which Coalition forces will remain in the region for an extended period. Talks about such a settlement has been discussed in the press by various prominent politicians. According to another poll made by The Taxydromos (Sinopian), a majority of Sinopians would favor the annexation of Bergenstein into Bruellen. But the results of this last poll are challenged as it was conducted online without representative sample of the population.

Refugees are in no hurry to return

Only about 10% of all the Bergen refugees who crossed borders in neighbouring countries have returned in their country, according to an Etruscan NGO.

"I don't think most of us are eager to return to Berg," declared Florian Kneller, a 62 years old Bergen journalist. "I'm personally waiting for my asylum demand to be granted by the Bruellan government so I can eventually become a Bruellan citizen. I don't intend to go home."

Kneller is one of many refugees living in the Vogt refugee camp in western Bruellen. Coalition countries have been granting many asylum demands in 2014 so far, Sinope leading the ball with 7,000 granted asylum in the month of January so far. We asked Kneller if he would return to vote in the upcoming elections in Bergenstein. His answer was preceded by a laugh.

"What for? So they can cheat and put another incompetent government in power again? It's like this Danskmark referendum joke."

The situation in Bergenstein seems to slowly getting better, but for how long?

Sinopian Air Force conducts simulation against VTOL aircraft

The Braavos Globe - Page 3 3-F-16-simulator
The Sinope Air Force's main simulator centre has integrated VTOL technology in its data to train its pilots against potential hostile VTOL aircraft.

By Stamatia Floros

BRAAVOS - With the Follandian government intervening in a commercial transaction between Sinope and a Follandian private military corporation, Sinope's command of UT64-TC aircraft has been cancelled. This, however, has not stopped the Sinopian Air Force to develop its VTOL technology and data collecting.

Indeed, the Republic's Air Force has upgraded its simulators to include VTOL simulations with a Follandian UT64-TC aircraft look-alike. An Air Force spokesperson, Natasa Metaxas, has agreed to answer the Braavos Globe's questions. We asked her if the recent events regarding escalating tensions between Folland and Sinope were in any case involved in the upgrading of the Air Force simulators' infrastructures.

"VTOL technology is being developed around Adonia and it was planned before Folland's illegal interference in free trade matters. However I can assure you that Sinope is in advance compared to most nations in military technology." Metaxas declared.

And undisclosed test pilot also reported to the Globe that the UT64-TC aircraft Sinope had ordered were in fact going to be used in a training battle against a brand new Aeolus PAK FA and land troops. "Yeah, they only wanted the VTOLs to show Sinope's superiority." said the pilot.

Bergenstein election: Wrong choice, says Diogenes
Braavos supports the changes in Abbasid

The Braavos Globe - Page 3 B97135443Z.120130120201050000GDU259AV.11
Traditional military parades following votes in Bergenstein

By Stamatia Floros

BRAAVOS - Respecting the Treaty of Braavos clauses, the Federal Republic of Bergenstein just voted for its new government. However, the population did not follow the Coalition's plans and voted in favor of the Wiez Party, a traditionalist party which aims to restore the monarchy and much likely many of the post-Civil War aspects of Bergenstein.

Many of the Wiez policies are not supported by Sinope, but Doge Diogenes' comments were moderate: "We welcome the plan to implement one sole currency for Bergenstein, but we think the Bergen people has made the wrong choice."

The Bruellan Die Presse reported that Chancellor Austerlitz declared "Bergenstein will find itself facing a very dark future, much like its past has been". With Sinope and Bruellen both regarding the new Bergen government as inept to the job that awaits that country, the two main powers in the Coalition Forces, continue in their stances. No other Western Althenan governments have made official statements yet on the election results, where the Insulonian and Mervegian statements are the most awaited.

The Sinopian ambassador to Bergenstein, Evangelos Kokinos, said that Sinope would be much glad to work with the new Schmittegstein government, as long as it respects the Treaty of Braavos and the global interests for peace. Doge Diogenes added that "Schmittegstein's promotion of alcohol, weapons and culture, is merely the continuation of what caused the civil war in the first place. That, and the rotten economy and politics it had. We'll be watching very carefully the upcoming changes in Bergenstein. Very closely."

Meanwhile in Abbasid, the country is in turmoil after major protests, forcing the Federal Supreme Council to pass reforms. New elections have been announced and the drafting of a new constitution as well. Political analysts claim that it might be the end of Abbasid's monarchy. Would a new Republican Abbasid lead a different Kabier World?

One of the major short reform has been the grant of amnesty to undocumented residents, allowing them to gain access to become legal residents. This comes as a major conflict hits the south of the country, with the unrecognized Islamic State of Esdaad being the target of Abbasidi air strikes. Addiyar reported the death of Ilyas Rahat Ali, the region's leader, wanted in several countries for terrorist charges and murder. Sinope has declared Ilyas Rahat Ali should have been tried for his crimes, especially in a 21st century Adonia. "Ilyas Rahat Ali had the right to a fair and just trial. His death might only end up in provoking more than anything. We don't wish for a bloodshed in the region." declared Doge Diogenes.

Esdaad and Abbasid both have a strange relationship with Bergenstein. With the election of Schmittegstein in Bergenstein, the future of the relationship between Bergenstein and these two states remain uncertain.
