History:
GSK was originally a medieval stronghold of the Trentannian Kings. It had long been a divided Celtic region. In the 1460's a revolt took place and the Celtic tribes were able to vanquish the Trentannian Army in the South Seas War. The Trentannian influence however would become rooted in the government. Three nations formed as a result, The Dunerian Free State, Kelhand and The Loymish Kingdom. In 1563, Kelhand and the Loymish King agreed to form a union, what became the Grand Kingdom, Southern often being introduced by foreigners in the name. It was shortly after in 1565 that the Dunerian Conquests began, the GK Kings invaded and took the island by 1575. Now the whole of the Praeian Isles were under the control of the Kellish King. It was during the next almost two centuries that the King began to steadily lose power and the country turned over to a Constitutional Monarchy. Parliment had existed since the 1461 Charter of Unification between the tribes, however had little power until the Decree of 1598, the first of many steps towards a more democratic nation. The Monarch still remained the highest executive into the 1700's and by 1775, the Industrial Revolution was starting in Praeia. It would be over the next 175 years that Praeia would gain it's status in the world. Throughout the 1800's Praeia took part in trans-oceanic trade, to Euphemia in the West and Carreon and the further reaches of Althenea, to the East. It was until the 1940's that Praeia maintained this role, when the Great Adonian War broke out. Due to it's more secluded south seas location, it was able to stay out of the fighting relativly well and after the war, emerged as a great power on the world stage, thanks to having manufacturing facilities that the war-torn nations did not, much in the same way as Shayden was able to acclaim a higher world status. Through all this, much of the conflict in Duneria remained forgotten, until international headlines were made in the New Years Day Bombings, on January 1st, 2000. Dunerian nationalists bombed parts of the city and an almost war like civil conflict reemerged after years of stalemate. On September 6, 2000 an agreement was reached between parties that gave Duneria greater independent rights but did not allow it's full independence.
Government/Politics:
The GSK is a Unitary parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy. The executive is lead formally by the monarch, who since 1986 has been King Leon II of Waywick, and in practice by the Prime Minister, who since March 3rd, 2013 has been Andrew O'Neil (National Conservative-Nashenwick District 2). The Prime Minister is elected from the Parliament, which consists of the upper House of Lords and the lower House of Commons. Three main parties dominate Praeian Politics, the National Conservatives, Labour Party, and the Federal Democrats.
The Countries:
Praeia is divided in to three countries, Kelhand, which consists of much of the main eastern island, down to the narrow of South Sebria. Kelhand has much of the political power, population and industry of the GSK. Loymon is the second country, located south of Kelhand on the main island, it has a much less dense population, and much different political makeup. It has it's own native celtic language, Loymish, and is physically much different, as opposed to the rolling hills and forests of Kelhand, Loymon is much more mountainous. The third nation is the culturally different Duneria. Holding only 4.5 million people, Duneria is the entire western island of the GSK. Consisting mostly of rolling hills similar to Kelhand, Duneria is almost an independent nation to Kelhand and Loymon, and for hundreds of years since the 1575 Dunerian Conquests, there has been fighting between the rest of the GSK and Duneria.
Diplomacy: Praeia has strong diplomatic ties with neighboring nations Utgard and Mervey, and the homeland of Trentannia, however the nation has had hot/cold ties with it's Devarnam Sea neighbor Kyrtizastan.
Economy: Different regions of Praeia have strong international influences, and all have very diverse backgrounds. Historically, the midlands around Thornhaven, Northdon and Hartwood have traditionally been manufacturing havens, and still continue to hold strong to what is left of the Praeian manufacturing industry. Duneria and Loymon produce some of the worlds most renowned and respected hard liquors, most prominently lines of Loym and Dunish Whiskeys. Banking and Finance dominate the Northlands surrounding the capital city, as well as government contracting agencies, it is also the home base for many multinational corporations.
