Official Name: Confederation of the Peoples of Ami
Short Name: Ami Confederation

Flag:

Coat of Arms: None at the moment. If a kind soul with too much time would like to offer to make me one, feel free and ask what I would like.

Map:
Legend: 1: Meralla; 2: Derramo; 3: New Tellamo; 4: Tembe
Dots are cities with 100k inhabitants or more

Description for Showcase: Experience the Jewel of Neridea today!

Motto: "Unity Through Perseverance"

History: I will reuse most of the Dantanaean history I think, but some things might be different because I will go for a more realistic climate on the island, in accordance with the Köppen Climate Map that has been posted a few months ago. I will also have to account for Dantanaeans (if this is application is accepted they will become Amis) migrating to Septentria (before it was colonized by the Brüllens). My Dantanaean history is still in the National Archives. Can be discussed and updated.

Population: 35 882 000 inhabitants on an area of +-235 600 sq km (152,3 inh/sq km)

Government/Politics: About the same as Dantanaea, it's a confederation of four states that work together for the most part only on defense, justice, social security, immigration, foreign affairs (but not foreign trade) and civil service. It is a republic with a onecameral parliamentary system. The confederal parliament is elected for a five year term. The Executive government is headed by a president that is elected by the state parliaments.
Political parties differ from state to state but in every one is usually one the folowing to be found: Greens, Social Democrats, Nationalists, Liberals. Additional parties that do not run in every state are: Hard left Socialists, Isolationists, Federalists.

Diplomacy: Nothing final here. I think we will have the best ties with the East Althenian nations, possibly with Septentria and/or New Terrance too, depending on how they treated/treat the indigenous Dantanaean (turned Ami if this application is accepted) population once Carreon was colonized. No really bad relations with anyone, except maybe that Trentannia doesn't like us a lot still because we threw out and butchered quite a bit of their colonists in the independence war (but certainly not all of them). That's for Chip to decide and discuss with me if he comes back.

Economy: A healthy mix of high tech, service and manufacturing industry, supported by natural gas found before the coasts of Derra and Tella and an agricultural sector based on tea, rice and sugarcane. No other natural resources except gas are found in enough quantities to be economically viable to extract.
Human Development Index: 0.875
Gini coefficient: 32.8
GDP (PPP): to be decided
GDP (nominal): to be decided

Official Languages: Trentannian, Ami (like formerly Dantanaean, this is Maori)

Date of joining the USNW: to be decided
Ambassador to the USNW: to be decided

Pictures: will be uploaded soon (Friday at the latest) <- much sooner!

Harbor of Meralla and the island containing the confederal government buildings(not yet finished).

Meralla old city from the other side of the river(not yet finished).

University building in New Tellamo. Largest university in the Ami Confederation, second largest city on the island.

Looking from the upper deck of a large cruiseship, nearby is the marina of New Tellamo, in the distance is the entrance to the harbor with the Harbor Bridge.

Part of the riverfront of Derramo from the air. The smaller bridge leads to Memorial Island, home to the city and state government and several memorials.

Paku Island, one of the three main parks of Derramo. The southern part of Memorial Island can be seen as well, though the landmarks are more to the north.

This is the Old City Park and Cemetery. Most of Derramo's old city was destroyed in the Independence War and this was made instead.

I'm sorry I left without saying anything for a second time. I couldn't be as active as some of you were at that time and as such wasn't able to participate in what was going on, although I thought there wasn't much going on except the regular "Oh, we'll have another civil war or terrorist bombing and then we'll all invade at once". The union seems to have gone a bit of a more realistic way, which I like, even though there is still a lot of work to be done and not as much activity as in that other union based on Earth (which I considered joining but couldn't live with yet another extra island nation just springing up in the Indian Ocean). So, third time's the charm is a saying in English and I hope it applies to my third time here.

Hey! Welkom terug Wink
Also, what's the official language(s)?
Ethnicity? etc.
HDI is too high imo, as well as pop. + I think there shouldn't be much high tech at all, it's Neridea after all.

Well, it's based on Taiwan. Paradise is there too which is also a highly developed nation, so why not. But I will reduce HDI slightly. Population is rather realistic to me though, if compared to Taiwan it's even not that high.

HDI lowered from 0.895 to 0.875.
Put in official languages.

Welcome back man.

I really like your pictures, and it's nice to have someone who uses a different city building game around for some variety. I have to echo Juls' concerns about population, especially after seeing the pictures, the density just doesn't seem to be there to have such a large population.

Hot damn, someone who's using CitiesXL for once. I actually have CitiesXL2011, but it's a digital download on my old laptop and for some freaking reason the retailer I downloaded it from has no record of my purchase, and I can't simply move all the game files over to my new computer, so crap.

First I was all "NEW MEMBER" then I remembered you and was all "Wooo", then I saw you were taking Dantanaea and went "uhhh?" and then I saw you're very developed-ness and went "Hmm.." but then I remember we're not Earth so I chucked my earlier statements out the airlock.

Yeah, basing a North Neridean (South African) nation off Taiwan isn't really atypical. Especially considering your apps looks more like a NZ-Australia based off than anything at this point.

There are places for highly developed nations with good wealth and relatively high standards of living and they are not in Neridea. Not anymore at least. I'd suggest you to either work something out with Charlie and Trevor on Carreon or move to Northern Euphemia (possible locations include Marqualis & Former Mitron), both of which are more suitable places for what you seem to want.

Aww, really not? No chance for a Neridean Tiger to emerge? If multiple people insist I will search for someplace else of course...

As for the population, I didn't exactly show you the very best parts of my cities yet, did I?  Wink Honestly, it's realistic in this setting. Derra is about the same size as Belgium and has 17,65 million inhabitants whereas Belgium has 11,1 million, so Derra would be the only place with a really dense population, also being the most developed. Mera is just a little bit larger then Belgium but only has about 40% of it's population, Enda is a state of only +-6800 sq km and a density of +-144 inh/sq km, so less then one million. Tella has about 12,5 million inhabitants but is approximately five times larger then Derra, so even though almost all of those 12,5 million people live within 200 km of the east and north coast of Tella, it's still not that dense.

Using Belgium as an example doesn't really help. It would have a completely different landscape to Ami. I'd expect Ami to have a mountainous interior with lowlands along the coast, where the population would be located.

I'm not going to request a location move, even if it is the "safer" option. This isn't Earth so there can always be a workaround somewhere.

Yes, that is correct. High mountains along the whole west coast of the island, lowmountains and hills all over central Tella, the north of Derra and the central spine of the Enda Peninsula. Mera is mostly a reasonably flat plateau with very rough coasts and serious hills only along the coasts. I envision the lowlands of Derra to reach between 30 to 100 km inland, with of course more then 90% of those 17,65 million in that lowland area. In Tella the lowlands are much larger, they reach up to 150 km inland along the whole east and north coasts and house +-12 million of the 12,5 million inhabitants. Both still nothing compared to Taiwan, which I used for inspiration. That island has 23,37 million people living on 36k sq km -> 644/sq km, of which most live on the plains on the west, maybe a fifth of the country's area, so population density will be even much higher there.

I would agree with Mike here, like guys, this isn't Earth. Respected regions can be pegged by the main continents; but the finest details can be omitted and let the guy have his auteur licence.

Guys, "this is not Earth" isn't an argument, it's an hypocritical statement that means nothing besides your subjective level on how far realism should go in this union and it's very regressive.

It's like a YOLO statement. "Eat cake 'cause yolo" or "Having nukes even if my pop is less than a million inhabitants 'cause this isn't Earth".

I think it'd be best if the realism talk was made into its own thread to avoid cluttering this one with unrelated posts?

I'd have to agree with Mike and Carl, what is seen as "realistic" is different depending on the person being asked, and trying to impose your views on realism will only turn people away. As Mike has previously said, things that don't exist on Earth could very well exist on Adonia. Also, it's hypocritical to call this application "unrealistic" considering the overpopulated countries that are in this union at the moment.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing this application passed.  Smile

To be fair, Juls has been just as critical of countries already in the union.

As far as splitting the topic, so far it's all been fairly relevant to the application. If it diverges any more I'll go ahead and split that discussion out of this hobbit.

*Remains smug cause nukeless*

Really though, South Africa which is basically the pinnacle of development over there relates pretty well to Qorten's application. And we've seem to have made Adonian civilization much more "fruitful" than our Earth counterparts. I find no problem to Ami having fancy sidewalks instead of Africa's dirt roads.
