To help measure the size/area of countries and the distances between cities, we need to lay down some exact measurements.

For example: How many sq. miles or sq. km are in one pixel on the 10,000-pixel map?

Adonia Is the same size as Earth...

He's not asking for maps or the size of hte planet, he's asking how many square miles pixel represents. Sorry Bruce, I don't know how to figure that, but Jon does, ask him.

^ one pixel is far too difficult to distinguish. good luck! Razz

or i can do it, but not today. but here's the procedure.

1. find the distance of the Adonia equator in pixels.
2. calculate the distance earth's equator in km.
3. (#px of adonia's eq)/(earth's eq. dist. km) = (1px)/(x km)
4. you're looking for x so cross multiply and that's it!

On the COFR map I just found the area of the map in pixels and found an easy ratio that brought it close to earth's size. Then I used the same method on a map I made without borders (the borders on that map were thick) and just colors to count the pixels of each country then used the ratio to find the area.

I can't remember the way i counted the pixels, some feature in GIMP. I could probably find it if I poked around a bit.

Measurement stats based on Adonia map v.3

1 pixel length = 4.015 km
1 pixel = 16.12 km2

Surface area:
total: 510,072,000 km2
land: 117,548,075.77 km2
land pct: 23.05%

Thanks! Now I can do lengths for my highways and areas for provinces!

Interesting, so we have less surface area that Earth. I guess you can kind of see that though.

^ those were quick calculations. i can't guarantee there weren't any errors. i will try to re-confirm it soon. Smile

also, that means that a pixel is 1 large sc4 tile Smile

One question. Does the outline of a coastline count as land or water?
(The Histogram tool doesn't easily take into account the coastline)
