History: (with Litheniant)
456BC is the first time we can see any evidence that the Kallvard tribe existed. We know this due to pottery with segments of the lion, of which is on the flag to this day. The pottery was carbon dated to 456AD. The pottery was found 40 miles from the mouth of the Kallvard river. The next record of the tribe is in 10AD, a preserved tapestry was found in 1972 in an old monestry. Of what remained the tapestry depicted a battle between the Kallvards and Littens, a coastal tribe at the mouth of the Kallvard river.
In the year c.300 the first real evidence of today’s society becomes apparent. The construction of the first Kallvard River boat was key in the nations next 1000 years. We know this due to remnants of a boat being discovered on a riverbank. The wood that was retrievable is now in the national museum under strict conservation costing millions of Enieo.
The boats were relatively wide but very shallow bottomed with ores and one large sail. This river boat could travel up river while carrying Ballista to aid ground attacks. Litheniant a newly formed kingdom at the mouth of the river formally named litten was the main enemy but they could not chase the Kallvard up river without a trek across the land while under Kallvard fire.
The Kallvard over the 6th,7th,8th,9th and 10th century started to expand their river dominance, the ships got a little bigger and the Ballista were replaced with canon. The boats arrived fired on the occupants and then charged and killed off the remaining part. In the latter part of the 9th C the Kallvard (Now a kingdom) started to place cavalry on the boats to scare the enemy but it was not continued as it was impractical, more of an hindrance than a help.
In 1301 a Bergenstein fleet arrived on the Litheniant coast, they had arrived in the hope of finding new ways to develop their economy. At the time a swolen Kallvard Kingdom owning 1/3 of the river shores was at war with the small but well defended Litheniant. Litheniant had constructed many defensive walls to protect itself which Kallvard artillery struggled to blast through. The Bergenstein fleet offered a proposal that if Litheniant joined Bergenstein then they would assist in the war. Thus Litheniant joined out of fear of Kallvard occupation. The war was a violent one, the Bergenstein armies mis judged the power of the Kallvard but Kallvard ships could not venture far into the sea.
They war was too costly for Bergenstein and collapsed into separate nations, Litheniant was left vulnerable, so sued for peace, the price was too high which left Litheniant now a Grand Duchy plunged into poverty. Kallvard now with no war to deal with in the lower course turned its attention to the expanding front of the Kingdom.
Huge fortresses were constructed along with smaller ones that housed the cities villages and homesteads. Virtually all of the populace lived in or near fortifications in fear of outsider attacks. The forts are for the defence of the people and the river boats to actually fight. The system worked well especially for the survival of the people.
When the Kallvard reached shallower river the boats got smaller and smaller. An then in 1499 they could boat no more. At that point it was decided to continue to the source of the river. Troops with extremely light artillery (basically muskets) started to advance. The mountains were relatively unpopulated. The area proved to play hoast of all sorts of different types of wildlife.
The word Kallvard had an e added on the name at the end after the completion of the empire along the full length of the river. The exact reasons were never really. Major celebrations happened nationwide.
In 1588 a massive improvement to the fortresses took way making the security of the empire many times stronger. When it was finished, well the first phase, a program for the construction of more riverboats and new sea going boats to avoid the same problem as what occurred with Bergenstein.
In 1603 a massive fleet of Berge (not Bergenstein) ships arrived, yet again in search of new land to prosper upon, which easily took over Litheniant and started to march into Kallvarde, they easily took the towns by the mouth but when they left the initial urban areas they fell victim to the riverboat’s bombardment. When they reached an open area surrounded by trees about a square mile large they set up camp. At noon the following morning they were showered by artillery and then at midnight they were overrun by armed populace that had retreated a mile ahead of the advancing Berge armies. It was the turning tide of the war, which led to a full Berge withdrawal.
After the war two major events occurred, the first was the amendment of the constitution stating that all were part of the military from the second they are born, all men must be armed and women prepared for movements are caring of the soldiers. (This was again amended in 1970 to make sure all people are armed no matter their sex.) The second major change was Kallvarde making alliances with countries that opposed Berge.
In the late 1700s Kallvarde became ever more concerned by the now huge Relastovan Kingdom, their fear was confirmed in 1790 when the Relastovan armies decided to march into Kallvarde. Kallvarde could hold them off, but struggled when there were no rivers for the riverboats to attack from. It was this time that Etrusque was looking for Slavic allies to help them against the mighty Relastova, so an alliance was formed. The war ended soon after but Kallvarde was forced to pay dearly.
Many years later when the founding treaty of Bergenstein was drafted Kallvarde was asked if they wanted to join, the aristocracy voted and declined on becoming a member but instead became a special member like Grand, and Abbasid.
Hostilities with Relastova were reconfirmed again in 1866 when yet again they sent an army in. A well thought out plan ambushed the army causing them heavy losses and a retreat was called for. In retaliation Relastova attacked a navel port belonging to Kallvarde, the town was heavily damaged, the arrival of an Etrusco-Kallvard fleet was too late for the town, the battle the followed lasted two whole days ending in an indecisive victory but forced Relastove to retreat. The following days Etrusque deployed thousands of troops in Kallvarde which ended the war in a peace treaty.
As the Kingdom progressed the nation only got more secure though in 1879 it realised that the old fortifications were outdated so new fortifications were built. The size and complexity of them has meant that there were not finished until 5 years before GAW. Even then new ones were planned.
In the Last Internal War in Bergenstein Kallvarde did stay out due to the vicious fighting but was a major supplier of hardware. In 1920 as the world changed Kallvarde signed a deal with Relastova to form an alliance. This alliance was in the nave of the Slavic people. Following this the alliance with Etrusque was cut.
When Bergenstein was invaded and occupied by Brullen Kallvarde helped evacuate many troops to Litheniant and Kallvarde. Though when the GAW actually officially broke out Kallvarde joined the side with Brullen and the Imperials and against the Allies but continued to attempt to argue with Brullen to free Bergenstein on the condition they allied with Brullen, this unfortunately was not going to work, Brullen was very stubborn about that. Nevertheless Kallvarde helped thousands of Bergenstein soldiers to Danksmarkensweg and freedom. Kallvarde did not take part in the invasion of Litheniant but did hold the role of occupying it. During the occupation Kallvarde did let the underground movements do whatever along with putting very few restrictions on the populace.
After the war the alliance with Relastova ended and Kallvarde focused more on the ever collapsing Bergenstein.
In 1990 a movement started in Kallvarde which supported an end to the monarchy and a new Republic of Kallvarde but the movement ran out of steam and fizzled away due to lack of support with content citizens and little hope of any major improvements.
However in 1995 the Kingdom’s ruling class decided that major decisions were to be voted on by the public but this is seldom used.

In the late 17th Century Kallvarde and neighbouring Grand Duchy of Lechia and Kingdom of Laskea started to look out further than the immediate area for trade in the Alcadean Sea. Laskea and Mallano sought to trade with more western states and Lechia in 1721 was conquered by the frighteningly fast growing Relastovan Empire but before hand did set up a small trading network. Kallvarde with a strong boating tradition travelled further afield and came across Sinopian tradesmen. The Kallvard were mostly unhappy with sinopian domination in the trading world so seeked to find another source of trade.
The answer to this came out of more luck than anything else, a kallvard trading vessel came across a smaller vessel which was clearly in major trouble, after being attacked. The Captain on the Kallvard ship ordered his ship to rescue the damaged vessel. Upon boarding the vessel they discovered that it contained huge ammounts of valubals and most of all the King of Ugento. Fortunatle both parties had Sinopian translators but discovered that the capital of Ugento (insert here) was ransaked (maybe by sinopians). The Ugentian ship was transported back to Kallvarde where he was cared for and a treaty was signed. The treaty outlined that both nations had a mutual defence act and trading deals.
This friendly relationship lasted for many years, Kallvarde funded the construction of major fortifications along the Ugentian coast. The Ugentian army was trained by the Kallvards, the Ugentans in return taught Kallvarde naval tactics in open water (as Kallvarde was a river nation) however the trade was the most profitable for both side. in the 1750s they sent joint trading armadas to the new world to trade with settlers, this though proved to not be as profitable due to pirates.
In 1820 Sinopian armies marched into Ugento hoping for a quick takeover so to have the advantage in Carico against Calibria. However thanks Kallvard assistance the Ugentians managed to form a strong defence. Within four days of the first main attack Kallvard reinforcements arrived in Ugento. Several fortified cities and other fortifications were resupplied. The most famous battle was the siege of Durras where the fortified city held off massive superior numbers of the sinopian army. Kallvard troops never reached the settlement but still lasted for 5 weeks until Sinopians overrun the defenders from a breach in the walls.
The two major battles that decided the war were the Battle of Elbsse and the Battle of the Ugentian sea. The Battle of the Aegean sea saw the main part of the fighting navies of both sides fight one another. This was a spectacular defeat for the Ugo-Kall forces wiping them effectively useless. The second the Battle of Elbesse occurred in a field near Elbesse. The two lines fought for hours when finally the Sinopians broke through the Kallvard line then used cavalry reserves to sweep across the line. The majority of Kallvard resistance routed soon after however the Ugentians reformed and fought on for 3 more ours. The were slowly overrun and killed. If they had routed another defence may have been possible . The kallvards and the remnants of the Urgentian army fled down to the coast where they fled on small vessels. The last great defence was at the fort Salvora where Kallvard troops held off the advancing Sinopians for just enough time to let the evacuation proceed. On the fort during the battle the Kallvard wrote ‘we’re sorry we failed’ in Ugentian. The majority of the defenders were captured and shot. Sinope set up a Protectorate government in Ugento.
In exile the Ugentian King and the Kallvard King became very good friends. Rumor has it that they were gay though such things were kept quiet as if it had got out they ran the risk of death from reactionary groups. After their deaths the new kings of both countries (albeit one in exile still) exchanged symbols. This is why there is an Ugentian symbol on the Kallvard flag. and why on official versions of the Ugentian flag there is an Kallvard Lion.
Even after GAW sinope did not let up their influence on Ugento. This continued to the present day. Kallvarde and the king in exile continues to try and find support to help free his country. In Ugento itself the king in exile has significant support for him to return and free Ugento from Sinope.
