History
Valessia started off as an island inhabited by Matinendan feudal lords.  Eventually these lords became powerful enough to establish a kingdom of their own, the Kingdom of Valessia.  The new nation allied itself with Etrusque (Posillipo) for protection from invaders, and has been independent since 1162. 
Valessia was ruled by Catholic absolute monarchs until 1812.   A three-month long revolution dragged on until King Marco VII gave in to a compromise.  A constitutional monarchy was established along with a new Parliament, where the citizens had roles in the government, lead by the King and Prime Minister.
During the GAW, Valessia remained neutral along with Matinenda.  At the end of the war, Valessia City hosted the signing of the Treaty of Valessia, which ended the GAW.
Valessia is now a modernized nation that enjoys a large economy in industrial and agricultural exports.  It remains neutral in most diplomatic situations, and has not been in any wars since the 1700s.
