Using USNW Skype Chat Without Downloading Skype

Did you know that you can get into USNW's Skype Chat, without downloading anything, right from your browser? Most people don't, so here's a tutorial showing how to do it. Remember, however, to be added to the Skype room you must have been accepted as a member.

1. Go to the Skype Website.

2. Click the "Join Skype" button.



3. Fill out the information marked with asterisks to create a Skype account, then hit submit. It then may ask you if you want to buy minutes, just check "No thanks" and hit continue until it says "Logout" in the top right. Then you can leave the page.



4. Go to imo's website.

5. Click the Skype logo.



6. Log in with your Skype account information.

7. After logging in, click the plus symbol in the top right.



8. Enter an admin's Skype account into the "Buddy's Username" field and hit "Add Buddy".

Participating Admins (Name | Skype Account):
Jon | kcjc.jon777
Daniel | danieltheson

9. Wait for the admin to respond and add you to the USNW Chat Room. This can take several days. If one admin fails to respond try adding another. If your Skype name differs from your forum names it helps to send the admin a message saying who you are(After you add them as a buddy a chat with them should open up).

10. Once you are in the room feel free to ask for assistance from other members to help you figure out the chat.

Yep, any Skype group can be accessed through this manner. Imo's app is what I use on my kindle to get on Skype and the web app has all the same functions.

I should note that at this time this method of accessing the USNW room is not possible, and may not be in the future. It seems that Microsoft may have silently put a stop to imo's Skype access, which if true would be a real shame. Not only would this halt access to Skype from browsers, it puts people on mobile platforms without official Skype apps in the dark.

Well this is a tutorial, and it no longer works, so I thought I'd update.

LOL like an 11 month bump. Yeah this is the only way I've been able to access Skype, and now it's down. I have tried to fix the actual Skype software several times without success.

Although rather crude, I found this site which can access Skype.

Thanks Will! It shows the contacts, but not chats. I'll figure it out.

You need to get a message in the chats while your logged in for it to work.
