If I recall, most of Itzamna was colonized by the Kingdom of Insulo until the 19th century (a la the Spanish Empire). Not sure about the details, though.

I look at it like the Brazil of Adonia.

"Brazil of Adonia" sounds like a good comparison to me, since Follvirkeland is a Mervegian-colonized (I think) nation in a region almost entirely occupied by Insulonian-colonized countries - while Brazil is a Portuguese-colonized nation almost entirely surrounded by former Spanish colonies. The only major difference between the two is that Follvirkeland's parent nation is a Norway analogue, while Brazil was founded by the Portuguese (Insulo is the main Adonian equivalent for both Portugal and Spain).
