Planning and Building the City of Hinali, Follvirkeland

Alright, so. With New Uniden come to a (sudden) end as Follvirkeland's capital city, I'm going to be building a NEW one. This city has already been established as a canon city within Follvirkeland on her northeastern shore. But not much about it was said. It shall be expanded upon here then.

Hinali, is a bustling, economically booming metro area that; like New Uniden, was at the very beginning a Logging port colony from Mervey which grew exponentially after the Great Adonian War. Unlike New Uniden however, Hinali wasn't regulated as strictly by it's building codes. The city grew upwards and outwards. It's downtown area hosts numerous big businesses that have offices all over Itzamna, Euphemia and Althena. As is custom to Follvirkeland cities, Farmland surrounds the city's outskirts on all sides, and has a neighboring shipping port just up the coast North of the city. Back in the day, Hinali was up as a candidate for Follvirkeland's Capital city, but New Uniden won out the bid, it being the original settlement. However now after the 7.9 Quake Disaster, Chancellor Moen and his Council have no choice but to proclaim Hinali, Capital of the Republic of Follvirkeland.

This city is gonna be big. The region I downloaded is quite flat in a lot of places, meaning PLENTY of sprawl room. I've already terraformed the city proper. It's got two rivers running through it and sits right on the coast of what was once a delta, but 'God Mode' filled up a bit of it. Below is my planned sections of the city.

Yellow being an Industrial sector with a small port on it's banks. Blue being the city's Commercial center. Lots of medium and high density Commercial with the usual skyscraper ploppables, and Green being the surrounding housing. Although I can't zone yet until I'm finished laying down the transit networks. I want GLR running through downtown before I even think about plopping anything. Not to mention my Heavy Rail network. Big city like this has to have a Train Station.

If any of you have suggestions, like where to place specialty "things" then go ahead! Like a central park or whatnot. Let's hope this turns out well.

That looks awesome. Putting rail is one thing I forget to do before starting to build my cities.

@K50: I actually do make RHW networks, but this is going to be a metro area so the maxis highways work real well within the inner city. But perhaps I should cut the outer sections of it and replace them.

@Kenny: Ugh, i KNOW. I can never get one I'm satisfied with, at least for a while. Saint Krist lasted for quite a bit though, Follomer's Capital.

Small update. More roadwork and other transit goodies, as well as a big chunk of the seawalls.

Region view of where Hinali is, sitting on the coast of Kyra Bay. The Dacian lies just beyond.

Layout of where everything is so far.

And a nice image of Hinali's historic Lighthouse which guided ships to it's port. Now it's a landmark with a private owner.

Ugh I'm dreading the plopping and such. Sooooo much work. -_-

I've begun the mighty plopping. I've already exhausted my immediate plugins and that's all I've been able to cover. Either I download more buildings or the rest is gonna be zoned.

What's done:

The central downtown district, the Sports Stadium, and the Capital Plaza.

Note! I am restarting. XD

I don't like the way the networks are laid out, soooo ugh...

Good thing there's a Bulldoze tool.

Edit: So this is what I did. I took a 3x3 square grid and imported it into it's own region, so I can just focus on the metro area itself. Looking at it this way is already making me feel better. lol

So a bit more progress has been made on the city proper, but the biggest project I've had my focus on was building Hinali's Industrial section and shipping port, which is scaring me a little. lol

This is by far the LARGEST industry zone I've made so close to a main habitat. But I've downloaded a NoMaxis blocker for Dirty Industry, so the pollution shouldn't be too bad, as my Demand Ordinance mod will cause a buttload of Hightech to develop.

And you see the areas in the region that are flat? ALL of that I want to turn into suburbs. This'll take forever.. After the industry develops fully, I'll turn my attention to the housing.

Can't wait to see what pops up in the Industrial sectio... wait. ALL of the remaining flat land is going to be suburbs? pale

Well actually not ALL of it. When i get far enough out, I'll turn the land over to Farms, since the people gotta eat. Oh and somewhere will be an Airport.
