Oil Drilling Rights: Loftindor Vs. The Malakkan Federation ArYFQ

If anyone wants to represent the Malakkan Federation, feel free to do so.

The Consul of the High Court may put this case to trial once a representative for the Malakkan Federation has been chosen.

Thank you your honor.

Background Knowledge:
Oil Drilling Rights: Loftindor Vs. The Malakkan Federation FlM7f
When the Malakkan Federation won its independence from Loftindor, both nations had naval presence in the Bayasa Gulf (called Malakkanian Gulf by the Malakkan Fed.). This led to small conflicts through out the last 2 centuries. Loftindor has more economical activity than the Malakkanians in the gulf, and Bayasa City borders the gulf, a city of about 6 million.

(Bayasa City; above)

Since oil has been discovered, military presence in the waters have increased on both sides. The Malakkanian's Navy is strong and is a match to ours. We wish to argue our case to our claim of the waters.

Just call it a name from the Loft. language, and split the oil. Razz

@: Stan- It's more than just the oil, it's also a factor of things from the past, such as fishing, military activity, and both Loftindor and Malakkan want to "own" the gulf, it has a large amount of fish, the area to Loftindor is a great economic strategy because of Bayasa City:

Blue: Loftindor Activity
Orange: Malakkanian Activity

Both our oil companies who want to drill there are not willing to work in a partnership due to our bad history. Disputes in this area are so bad, The Malakkanian Government claims a small part of southern Bayasa that has been ours for many years. According to a survey in the area, 90 percent of people spoke Loftindorian. As you can see, it is a bit more complicated.

@Stan: Razz Glad you do.

@Mike: I guess you could be.

@Mike: Yeah, you're a jury member. Razz

Anyone want to be the representative for Malakkan so we can get this thing started? Razz
(You won't be representing your country in the case - we'll pretend you're a special ambassador from the Federation for the purposes of this roleplay)

Yes, you will not in anyway be associated with your real country.

(Fixed the quote for you. -Daniel)

We could just give Loft. the waters they're active in, and give Malakka the waters they're active in. Razz

Sadly Stani, don't work that way. And I'd make a bad Rep for Malakka seeing as my personal (and unqualified professional) opinion has already decided this case. Razz )

Problem is, they're both active in the same stretches of water - that's why this is being brought to court in the first place. Razz

@Dan and Stan: Exactly, the graph just shows which one has "more" activity in those certain areas.

Anyone willing to jump in a Rep yet?

Yes, remember if you represent Malakkan Federation, no matter what the result of the trial, your country will not face bad relations with Loftindor, you're only representing the Malakkan Fed..

I believe this case is losing relevance on account of recent escalations in the gulf. I have a feeling Malakka would rather fight on the field than in the court room.

I would be Malakkan, but I don't think I'd do a good job. Just say they won't cooperate with talks?

Good Idea.

We would like the case to be closed. The Malakkanians don't seem to be open to talk.

Well, since this case never moved beyond "Proposed" in the first place... Razz
