You should be able to create layers and modify their transparency. Though I use Paint.Net to do my work so I am not completely sure on how to work Photoshop.

Yes I know how to do that, but unless you hold it up to ligh the watermark is invisible making it a bit silly by putting it on

That's the point. XD It is a security measure, it's not meant to look fancy. It isn't supposed to be completely invisible. It is only supposed to be harder to see.
